Project Description

DrGerard1JANET GERARD, MD, FAAFP has always been interested in wellness and prevention of chronic illnesses. She actually began her career as a Registered Dietitian after completion of an undergraduate degree in Nutrition Science at State University of N.Y. at Oneonta in 1978. She then went on to complete a dietetic internship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979.

After working for a few years in Public Health as a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist, Dr. Gerard decided to apply to medical school. She completed her Medical Education at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta in 1987 and went on to complete her residency training at the Family Medicine Residency Program at the State University of N.Y. in Stony Brook in 1990. Dr. Gerard was chosen as Chief Resident while in the third year of that program and had experience with scheduling and training medical students.

Dr. Gerard’s first position was in a private practice in Setauket New York where she also worked as a Clinical Instructor for 1990-1994 in the Department of Family Medicine at University Hospital in Stony Brook.  This position allowed her to be awarded the degree of Fellow in Family Medicine. The Degree of Fellow recognizes AAFP members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine, by their advancement of health care to the American people and by their professional development through medical education and research.

Although Dr. Gerard grew up on Long Island in New York she gladly returned to Atlanta, Georgia in 1994 just in time for the Olympics. The move back to Georgia with her husband and three children was an excellent choice. She worked initially for Kaiser Permanente and what was then called the Piedmont Medical Care Foundation until 2001.

“You, the patient are my first professional responsibility – I enjoy being your doctor.   It is a privilege to be part of your quest  to remain healthy as you travel through life.”
- Janet Gerard MD FAAFP

In 2001 Dr. Gerard and Dr. Richard Gorman opened their own private practice and are affiliated with the Piedmont Health Care System in Peachtree City Georgia. They have an excellent reputation in the community and enjoy providing care to growing families. Dr. Gerard has worked as a volunteer medical director for the Fayette Care Clinic and enjoys giving back to her community.

In addition to actively maintaining her board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine since 1990 Dr. Gerard has continued to maintain her R.D. status through the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She also proudly carries the title of Aviation Medical Examiner since 1998.

When Dr. Gerard is not working and running her business she enjoys spending time with her family, travel, running, cooking, biking, and gardening
